The working meeting was also attended by Menpora Zainudin Amali, Wamenkumham Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, and PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan.
Furthermore, Kemenpora and PSSI will also be invited by Commission X (in charge of sports) in a hearing meeting with the same theme next month.
“The House of Representatives Commission III can approve the granting of Indonesian citizenship on behalf of Jordi Amat Maas and Sandy Henny Walsh,” said Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Bambang Wuryanto when reading the results of the meeting.
As is known, the Indonesian national team will play FIFA’s official match against Curacao twice on September 24 and September 27. PSSI hopes that Jordi and Sandy’s naturalization process can be completed and defend the national team in the match.
“On 24 and 27 (September) there is a FIFA Matchday we want to play Curacao (Fifa 84th rank). PSSI wants before FIFA Matchday the two players can become Indonesian citizens (WNI). PSSI thanks President Joko Widodo, Menpora Zainudin Amali, Menkumham Yasonna Laoly, Commission III of the DPR and all those who have helped this naturalization process,” said Iriawan.
“We believe the presence of these two players will significantly improve the quality of the national team as expected by all Indonesian football lovers. Moreover, Indonesia will face the 2023 Asian Cup,” he added.
Menpora appreciated the attention of Commission III of the DPR which approved the naturalization of Jordi and Sandy. The need for the presence of these two players is technically recommended. In line with that, the government is committed not to neglect the early childhood development of soccer talents.
“As many as 75 percent of Indonesian people really like football. Therefore, we must answer the people’s pleasure with the appearance of a good national team. Hopefully the management at PSSI will get better. Governance at clubs in League 1, 2 and 3 is also getting better,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.
Wamenkumham Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej said that all the documents for the two players were in accordance with the rules and procedures. They use the naturalization mechanism in accordance with Article 20 of Law Number 12 of 2006.
“We will do our best. Hopefully in two weeks this process will be completed and both of them will be able to defend Indonesia,” said Edward. (*)
