TOPKATA News – Members of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskim) of the Dharmasraya Police Resort, West Sumatra Province (West Sumatra) managed to secure large quantities of illegal cigarettes on the Kilometer One Sumatra Cross Road, Nagari Ampek Koto Pulau Punjung, Dharmasraya Regency, Friday, 2September 2022.
The largest illegal cigarette smuggling arrests were obtained from container trucks with a load of tens of thousands of packs. One perpetrator was also arrested. The other person is being chased by the police. Until now, the owner of illegal cigarettes without customs is still under investigation.
The Dharmasraya Police Chief, AKBP Nurhandiansyah, who was accompanied by Dharmasraya Wakapolres Kompol Alwi Haskar and Dharmasraya Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Iptu Dwi Angga Prasetiyo on Friday at the Dharmasraya Police Headquarters confirmed the arrest.
“It is true that our members of the Dharmasraya Police Reskim Unit have secured one container truck vehicle with Police number B 9869 NYT. During the arrest, after inspection, there were thousands of packs of illegal cigarettes inside the container truck, without customs,” he said.
He said the cigarettes were smuggled from the city of Jambi. “The smuggling of illegal Luffman brand cigarettes is 271,000 packs packaged in 542 boxes,” he said.
So, members of the Satreskim Polres Dharmasraya received information from the community that they immediately arrested the truck. Also, securing one driver with the initials DI (43) from Banyuasin Regency, Jambi. The perpetrator was immediately identified as a suspect. “And there is one suspect that we are still hunting for, because he fled during the arrest,” he said.
Currently, evidence and suspects have been secured at the Dharmasraya Police Headquarters for further investigation.
The suspect is threatened with Article 199 paragraph 1 of Law Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health, and or Article 62 of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, and or Article 114 of Law Number 7 of 2014 concerning Trade which is amended in Article 104 of Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning create work witha maximum imprisonment of five years.(Eko)
